Classic Arts Showcase selects Globecast for playout and distribution services - with VOD - in the US

Globecast , the global solutions provider for media, has announced that it has been selected by Classic Arts Showcase to provide it with playout, linear satellite distribution, VOD and streaming services beginning January.

Classic Arts Showcase is a not-for-profit 24-hour programming service offered free of charge through local public service channels, cable and broadcast stations as well as online. It’s estimated to be available in more than 65 million homes and brings a wide range of cultural content to viewers.

Globecast is providing HD network origination, cloud-based library storage, uplink of the channel to satellite, and VOD and streaming services. The channel will originate from the Culver City broadcast facility and be uplinked and streamed from the same facility.

James D. Rigler, President at Classic Arts Showcase, said, “We’re incredibly pleased with the suite of services that Globecast has put together for us. Partnering with a single media services supplier of their stature provides us with great efficiencies from both a technical and business perspective. Given Globecast’s expertise and technical acumen, it’s clear they are the right partner for us as we move forward.”

Classic Arts Showcase delivers its content to Globecast over the public internet. Globecast then automatically monitors it for technical quality, timing and any missing content, verifying all content against the playlist. The channel is then uplinked in HD to satellite for onwards distribution.

Globecast is also encoding selected content for the channel’s VOD offering. The linear channel is also encoded and supplied to Classic Arts Showcase’s website via CDN to end users.

Lou DiMauro, VP Sales, East Coast at Globecast Americas, commented, “Classic Arts Showcase is a long-established channel. As soon as I joined Globecast, we began a conversation as to how we could help evolve their technical service provision, consolidating their origination, satellite distribution, and streaming services under one vendor and together, we’ve developed a very effective package for them.”
