4K 4Charity Opens Registration for Virtual Fun Run at SMPTE 2020

Annual Event Caps 2020 Virtual Run Series That Supports Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives

4K 4Charity Fun Run organizers today announced that registration has opened for the latest virtual installment of the annual running and walking event held alongside the SMPTE 2020 Annual Technical Conference. The 4K 4Charity Fun Run series raises funds for nonprofits focused on increasing diversity and inclusion in the technology industry while offering a fun and healthy means for colleagues to connect and give back. Beneficiaries of this year’s 4K 4Charity Virtual Run at SMPTE 2020 include Technovation  and UNICEF. Registration is available now at https://4k4charity.com/smpte/ and donations will be accepted through December 9.

Continuing to keep participants safe, the 4K 4Charity Virtual Run at SMPTE 2020 allows supporters to choose from a 4K (2.49-mile) or 8K (4.97-mile) distance to run, walk, or jog at a time and place that is convenient for them. Once registered, participants simply print out a race bib, and complete the selected distance wherever and whenever they prefer by December 9. They can connect with fellow participants and share accomplishments on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or Twitter, with the social tag @4K4Charity. Along with bragging rights, registrants will receive a finisher’s medal via mail.

Proceeds from the 4K 4Charity Virtual Run at SMPTE 2020 will directly benefit organizations advancing diversity initiatives, including Technovation, a global tech education nonprofit that empowers girls and families to become leaders, creators and problem-solvers in their lives and communities. It will also support UNICEF, which is on the ground in more than 190 countries, partnering with front-line responders to keep children healthy and learning, and protected from sickness and violence.

Funds will also be given to UNICEF to aid in providing trustworthy guidance to parents, caregivers, and educators; and protecting children amidst COVID-19.

Hosted by AWS Elemental, the 4K 4Charity Virtual Run is supported with generous sponsorships, including: M2A Media, Intelsat, and Bubble Agency.

"The 4K 4Charity's move to a virtual format is perfect for these times and we are happy to participate again this year. The beneficiaries deal with improving access to education in technology and programming for young people, which SMPTE cares deeply about," said Barbara Lange, executive director of SMPTE. "I have participated in nearly every one of the 4K4Charity runs at IBC, NAB, and SMPTE so I encourage everyone to go out and run for a great cause within our industry."

Additional sponsorship opportunities for the 4K 4Charity Virtual Run at SMPTE 2020 are still available. To learn more, please contact 4k4charity@elemental.com. Since it was founded by AWS Elemental in 2014, the 4K 4Charity Series has raised more than $1.2 million for charitable organizations.
